I did something this year that I’ve never done before… I took our own family photos… by myself… with my iPhone!
We typically get family photos taken every fall, but holy moly, we are beyond busy this year. I swear we have something every single weekend from now until Thanksgiving. And with my son’s ever-changing hockey schedule, I didn’t want to book something and have to cancel last minute. Plus. there’s always that fear that the weather is going to be rainy or too hot or too sunny, etc. So I made the last-minute decision to take them myself. I mean, I only really needed one good group shot, one of the kids together and one of each of them… how hard could it be?
Honestly, it wasn’t that bad, aside from the fact that my tripod fell over a few times.
We set up shop in my parent’s backyard. I figured it would be easiest because they could change there, cool down inside (it was a hot day), and if they started getting antsy, the grandparents could coax them into a few more pictures (and my mom always has good candy inside the house which kept them motivated)
It was honestly the least stressful photo session we’ve ever had. There was no rushing, no yelling, and no complaining. A win for everyone!
Want to know the least stressful part? Choosing our outfits! For many, this can be the most daunting part of taking family photos. My biggest piece of advice??? Start at Old Navy. They have the best selection of family outfits, and it’s a one-stop shop for everyone in the family. They have so many affordable options for women, men, and kids, and are very size inclusive. Every year, I’m blown away by their selections of coordinating pieces. Whether you want to keep it super matchy or just slightly color coordinated, you’ll definitely find pieces you love at Old Navy.
When I saw this gorgeous floral dress, I fell in love, and I knew I would build my family’s outfits around it. I was able to pull so many great colors out of the dress, which is a benefit of having at least one person wear a print. The outfits my kids wore will work for school as well. I mean, how stinking cute is that jean skirt? And I loved the mustard color polo with the green pants; such a fun color combo for fall.
If the idea of family pictures stresses you out, grab you iPhone and give taking them yourself a shot!
