If there’s one question I get asked by teachers over and over again, it’s, “What are your favorite black pants?” To be honest, that question is a bit tricky, and here’s why. We all have different preferences when it comes to the fit and style of our “perfect pants.” So, the ones I favor may not be the best option for you. A few things that I always discuss when I post black pants on socials is: fit, fabric, length, stretch, pockets. All of these things can make or break your decision to purchase a pair. I’m here to round up my personal favorites and give you all of the details on each. If you scroll to the end of this post, you’ll also see a round up of a few other brands I recommend.

Sizing Information: I’m 5’3″ and wear a size 8 or medium depending on the brand. I have a short torso and short legs. I carry my weight in my mid-section and have no butt or hips. I’m wearing a small 2 inch heel with all of these pants.

These Grace Karin trousers are fantastic because they are polished and chic. They have an elastic waistband, but its only visible in the back, which I love. They hit me at the ankle, so they work with all types of shoes. I wear these in a size medium.

The Amazon straight leg trousers are a very lightweight pair of pants, perfect for warmer temps. They’re easy to move in and have a button/zipper closure with pockets. They hit me a bit below the ankle, so definitely lower than what you see on the model. I’m in a size medium.

If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know that the Grace Karin paper bag waist pants are my absolute favorite. I own these pants in 7 colors. The question I get asked the most is if you have to tuck your top into these pants. The answer is NO! I’ve styled these several different ways, and I have absolutely worn tops and sweaters untucked with these- just take off the removeable bow tie to reduce any bulkiness. Size up in these, especially if you’re in between sizes. I wear a medium and could possibly do a large for a more relaxed fit.

The reason I love the Yogipace brand so much is because they offer so many different styles and lengths (perfect for us tall OR short gals). The thing to keep in mind with these is that they are meant to feel like yoga pants. They’re very stretchy and comfortable. Some styles come with pockets, some do not, so just pay attention to that when ordering. I really loved these cropped flare pants. I’m in a medium with a 26″ inseam.

The Yogipace straight leg trousers are another great option. I did the medium 29″ petite in these. I would personally prefer a 27″ or 28″ to be more ankle length since I felt like I needed to wear heels with these. These do have pockets!

The Spanx perfect ankle pants are a fan favorite, but for me, they weren’t everything I had hoped for. Number one, they are very expensive, even on sale. They feel like a very thick legging. You’ll want to size up in these. I’m in a large and they still felt snug, especially around the ankle. I was expecting more of a straight fit, and these definitely felt like a skinny fit. I also had a hard time with the length. I wanted ankle length as advertised, so I ordered the petite (as pictured), but they ended up being a capri length on me. When I tried the regular length, they were way too long, so I just didn’t have as much luck with these as other people have.

While I’m not the biggest fan of mid-rise (I prefer high rise), I always get requests for mid-rise black pants, which can actually be pretty tricky to find. These mid-rise work pants from maurice’s are fantastic. They are comfortable and stretchy, and have an elastic waistband. The best part is that they come in lengths Extra Short to Extra Long! You don’t see that very often! I wear a medium short in these.
